'fuge ideas

MayoBoy

Movin' on Up
I'd like to have a dedicated 'fuge over my sump. I'll tap off the return pump and have the 'fuge overflow back into the sump. Since I already have a couple of NO strip lights, I'd like to use a 10 gallon tank.

I know that drilling a 10 gallon tank can be hit and miss so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what can be used for an overflow. I don't think a regular U tube will work because it will probably only be 1-200 GPH and U tubes seem to lose suction if you drop below 3-400 GPH.

Or, does anyone know of a cheap place to buy an acrylic tank the same size as a regular 10 gallon? I could use a Rubbermaid or something but I'd like to be able to look into at least one face.

Copycat! :p This is the same thing I'm doing. I got a tank from Roy, weird size, something like 16 gallons or around there. Was already drilled in one corner, but the hole is only like one inch in diameter. At any rate, if you find any cheap drill-able tanks in that size, let me know, I may still consider going that way and using this tank for something else.

mayoboy,

I plan on putting a 1/2" bulkhead and just letting it drain that way...I am assuming that a hole for a 1/2 " bulkhead will not compromise the integrity of the tank at all...who knows...maybe I'll be terribly wrong!

I plan on doing the same thing

any chance I can get in on one of those eclipse 12s, catastrophe?

ooo...I might be interested in one of those. :D

Waiting for the mayo to respond....

Hey now...get in line. ;)

I assumed I was second in line after you, but he said he had a few

about the 10g tanks, I know that all panels are drill-able, but the word on the street is that the glass is so thin that after a while it cracks if you drill it...some have success, some do not...but I think it would be fine since the hole is tiny for a 1/2" bulkhead

NP, I was j/k about the line ;) ...if there's a couple of you guys who need them, I'll just use what I already have. This is exactly what I was looking for the other day in here though.

If you go to a large pet store, maybe Walmart, you can buy a "critter keeper". It is a clear plastic tank with a plastic screened top for hamsters and small animals. You can drill a hole anywhere you like on those. That was my first fuge.

that's my backup plan if I dont get in on one of these eclipses...I am unfortunately 1st alternate, haha...my tank is empty, so I can wait it out

Sorry guys, my wife mashed her car into the back of a pickup truck last week and we've been frantically trying to figure out what we're going to do if insurance totals it. So the past several days have been spent visiting car lots, test driving, and perusing the internet to get a quick view of what we like, don't like...and simply can't afford (which is just about everything), and I just haven't been in here much.

Latazyo, go ahead and take the other eclipse as I'm not going to be able to really get my head into tank stuff for probably another week or more while all this stuff at home pans out.

Dave, good luck with the car, I drove my car into a light pole a few years ago and it was "luckily" totalled....sometimes that can be a real pain in the ***

good luck, and try to have fun car hunting, forget that you have to get another car and think of it like you are just getting a new one for fun

I know that drilling a 10 gallon tank can be hit and miss

Only if you've been drinking! :D

If it breaks, then you are out $5-$10. Not worth the hassle. Just drill the tank, it will be much safer, and even then it could still overflow if you get a clog....
