I just wanted to know what all you guys use in your fuges? And is their any in particular that are better worse I'm just running culpra and its doing awsome growing like crazy I just wantes why people use specific kinds or is it a preference thing? Thanks

I really like mangroves but it takes a large number to actually remove nitrates and phosphates, my admiration for them is mostly aesthetic. Room to grow upward is necessary. I also grow cheato around the mangroves.

I have caulerpa and cheato. right now the cheato is actually doing better than the cheato which is rare.

It's alive and growing but based on my past experience it's growing slowly. Not that I care, I just put it in for my two Mexican lumpy clawed crabs to eat. Perhaps it's growing quickly and they just eat more than I think they do...

I'm back to growing chaeto only & a couple mangrove for my shrimp to climb on, after recently having much of my caulerpa go asexual on me overnight. I have about a 4" sandbed with live rock, 1 peppermint shrimp, snails & hermits. There may still be a couple pieces of caulerpa, red gracica, tea cup algae, & dragons breath, which will take off again eventually. I also have 1 skunk clown & maybe a 3" black & white serpent star I haven't seen in 3 weeks.

My calupera is growing like crqzy is chaeto better or they all kind of do the same thing ?

chaeto & caulupera do the same thing. They "eat" nitrates, so when you harvest it, you are removing the nitrates. I prefer chaeto because it doesn't go asexual which can really mess up your tank when it happens. I think it then puts all the nasty nitrates back into your tank & fouls the water. I think calpura grows faster so as long as you harvest it often & watch for it to go asexual (turns clear/white) & pull it out immediately, it's good for your nitrate export. Chaeto grows slower for me an stays more controllable, not as evasive.

I'm setting up a new aio and wondering if anyone locally has any experience with algae turf scrubbers as opposed to the usual chaeto ball in the sump?
