fuge?

Ok I am about to finally start my 75 gallon tank and start to cycle. I don't think I will have much of a cycle since I have been curing rock in rubbermaid containers for almost a month now.

Anyway my question is about plants in a fuge. My fuge will be in the middle of my sump.

I want to be able to feed tang and some other herbivore fish

Would this be good?

Gracilaria, Caulerpa, and Chaeto? Of course no sand in fuge perhaps some rock and some cleaners..

Mangroves?

Could I cycle with this or wait till I indeed cycled
My fuge will be around 14"

I'd stick with Chaeto and avoid the other two like the plague, unless you don't mind them migrating to your DT and taking over. Those I know who have kept mangroves like them for fun and ornamentation, but they're not as great as many used to think for nitrogen control.

Just buy nori to feed the tangs and stick with chaeto in the fuge. Caulerpa can/will go 'sexual' and turn your water green when things get a little out of line. That's why I switched from a display fuge with all the algae you listed and switched to a sump/fuge and just chaeto.
