fungia placement

I have a fungia that I placed on some liverock. It was flat and seemed happy there. It is actually so happy that it has grown and is hanging off the the side. Should I leave it there or move it to the sand where it will lay flat? It seems happy where it is so I'm not sure if I should move it or not.

I've always had mine on the sand. Seems to be happy.

Yeah, I've always heard that too, but it seems to be happy on the live rock, about 2/3 deep in the tank. Does it need to be flat, though, or can it hang a little off the rock?

I have two fungias which hitch hiked on a rock and was attached via short stalk. Transferred them to another rock but kept them on their stalks. They were pea sized then, now 2 inches in diameter. Their soft flesh extend all the way beneath the plate. I think they should be elevated. They have apparently spawned because I see 2 babies far away from where they are.
I would suggest you glue the bottom to a pointed piece of rock or make an artificial stalk (about 1/2 inch) using putty and glue it on a rock.

They are able to move by inflating their flesh. I would move to the sand personally, but you could secure to rock. They don't have legs so they don't HAVE to move. As long as it's happy!

My mother colony has always sat on the sand. It has produced numerous clones/babies that pop off and have landed in various places in my tank. I've left them pretty much where they landed.
Those that hit the sand are much larger and have greater polyp extension then those sitting on the rocks.

I have mine on a rock and seems very happy, I have a friend that has a LFS and he includes and acrylic plate with each purchase so they can be placed low but not on the actual sand.. He says they grow more on rock or coral rubble not the fine sand that's used in most DT and can cause irritation to the coral.
