My recently bought button polyps are showing signs of fungus. Its just on single polyp now(the colony has like hundred or so polyps).I gave them an iodine bath & freshwater bath before putting them in the tank. They are the only inhabitant.
They were doing good for two weeks.I just installed 2 x 20 W actinic T4 bulbs.
The base around the infected area has turned black.Help Plz.

Zoa pox.

The local available H2O2 has strengths of 3% to 5%.
Do I add this to make 10:90(10 parts H2O2 & 90 Parts SW) or 100% pure H2O2 to make 10:90(10 parts H2O2 & 90 Parts SW).

If you doing a gallon worth dip, then 10% of that gallon consists of peroxide and 90% of that gallon consists of saltwater

Thx
Did the dip last night, with 110 ml H2O2 B.P.(20 vol) in 1L SW. for Five minutes.
The polyps started to open in like 2-3 Hrs.
Should I do it again ?

I have done three dips till now.The last dip was day before yesterday.
& I have lost 6-7 polyps now.Should I continue dipping ?It disappears and reappears after a day or two.Should I just keep dipping ?
What can be the root cause ?

No inhabitant either coral or fish or inverts.

If you really want to get rid of zoo pox buy Furan 2. Its an anti-fungal for fish and it will kill your zoo pox.

fungus/mould on zoas that have been in a tank for a few weeks is unusual, fungus normally happens on freshly harvested rocks, where something under the colony dies, ie. sponge or heaverly silted rocks, etc

I would identify the problem first before randomly dipping the zoa's, resulting in more stress on the zoa's. Does it look like a fungus/mould or a sponge? or is it actually on the zoa's or around the base? does it appear during lights on & goes when the lights are off?

Are the zoa's or palys, what colour is the fungus/mould. Best course of action is get pics of the coral & the problem fungus/mould/sponge/pox, etc and then people will be able to provide more specific help, instead of randomly throwing in possible causes & solutions.

Thanks dark
It definitely looks like a fungus growing over my colony,it first appears as a thin translucent white layer that covers the polyp completely. It spreads quickly to other polyps if left alone. Not affected by light. After a day if left alone it appears opaque white, the polyp dies,it detaches from the base membrane. The H2O2 dip just seems to keep it at bay but doesn't stop it from appearing back.Neither helping in recovery of the affected polyp. They are Zoa's.
I dont have a good camera to capture the picture.

This is a bad case of mold/fungus, that can be blown away and the polyps look fine underneath, but normally, you are just fighting a losing battle & the polyps will normally perish.

But again, It's hard to diagnose without seeing the problem.

The fungus has kinda stopped, two days and only one zoa is affected now.I fraged the colony in three colonies, and one polyp is infected in one and three in the other. The 3rd one for now seems quite OK.
I was thinking of buying some new Softies or palys but do you think its a good idea ?
or I should first fight it off and then go for any other thing ?
