That's GOLD BABY GOLD.... pulsing xenia is sooo super rare and valuable. If I were you pickup I would jump on that before I do !!!!

I know people kid a bunch about xenia being a weed but I remember when it was a hard to get coral. It would smother itself in shipping most of the time. I remember trying to buy some from Fishy Business when they had a store in Nashville and they wouldn't sell it to me because they finally got some in that lived and were trying to grow it out. :D

yes it is. at one time I had the market cornered on that stuff. i had it growing everywhere and could get $15 a stalk at the critter for it! sadly I was too lazy to mount it and likely threw away $1000 of it in the yard over the years.

no idea why people could hate Xenia just because it grows. it looks nice and I've never had a problem pealing it off of rock. Rbta grow and multiply, people don't complain about that.

Go look at mapns tank and then you'll see why. Its completely taken over and he has been fighting it for months trying to get rid of it. John you may have to link a pic to do it justice. Have you ever seen kudzu on the side of the interstate .....its that bad.

I really like my xenia. It has a really hard time growing downward which makes it much easier to control. I have a huge colony on a small rock. When a piece crawls off of that rock onto something else I just peel it off then. Given time, any coral can take over a tank if not properly maintained.

The funniest part about it all is that in one place everyone talks about how much of a weed it is or that it is worthless, in other forums people are practically begging for people to sell them some.

When xenia is grown on the glass, it often migrates to the top. From the glass it can easily be removed with a razor blade. It can attach to a plug in a few short days. It can easily be sold and shipped. It's THE coral that every new reefer wants.

You might sell a few SPS but it will take months for those frags to grow back. The person that sells xenia might make a few less dollars per frag but can be selling 10 times more frags. I don't think it would be a bad thing when they grow back in 3 weeks.

It really depends on the tank on how fast it grows. I can't really explain that but I do have firsthand experince. I had pulsing xenia on a rock that did nothing for a year and then it started moving to the glass. John however had the stuff completely take over almost overnight it seemed. Why....I don't know. What I do know now is that I can grow sps super fast in my tank and I have most of my frag money from sps. Also more people in this hobby want nice sps than xenia nowadays and the market reflects that. Is xenia a great beginners coral yes but people quickly rid their tank of it when they realize what it can become and or move on to nicer lps/ sps/ monti

this does seem rather true. Right now, I do like my xenia and will always keep some growing on the glass but it is also one of the larger show pieces in my tank. It's still fairly new at about 5 months. The vast majority of my coral is still just smaller frags. Once everything starts to grow out, I doubt there will be room in the rockwork for xenia. It's really gonna be fun when the RTBA grows out or even starts splitting. As it is, I already have so many corals that I have a hard time even finding a spot to put a single new frag.

I have to keep spots reserved for some future Purple monti cap and purple tip monti caps, one red and one green.

I know the feeling man, whenever I see something I want I have to think. "Now what would be worth getting rid of to make room for this", its the curse of this hobby. There is always something so much cooler than what you already have.

I love Xenia.. especially Pulsing blue tenacle... from my experience... xenia is alway been a slow grower for me, and some how I manage to kill every single Xenia I owned... WHY? I have no Idea, They just Die on me... lol So who ever wana give away Free Xenia... Let me Know.. I'll Thank Yaaaaa!!!!! :)

OH man.. mine would just let go and druft to the new place then spread daily. once that place was full, it would let go and drift some more! WHEW that stuff grew..

I did make several hundred off it over the years....
