Furan-2 reef safe?

Tahoe Reefer

I've read reviews of this product being used to treat Zoa Pox but haven't found any information stating that it's reef safe or NOT reef safe. My fish are in a QT right now and easily treated however, if I can treat the reef itself maybe I can skip going fallow for an extended period of time.

Has anyone actually used this bacterial medication on a reef?

My guess is that if it doesn't kill your corals directly, it'll kill the bacteria that on the live rock and lead to the tank re-cycling. Furan2 is a broad spectrum antibiotic killing bacteria good and bad.

Gotcha...I wouldn't worry about trying to treat the display, you're going to treat in QT for a couple weeks anyway (medicating and observing) unless you have inclinations of having crypt you should be good to go.

I think that's a good plan:) leaving the display fallow for that period of time should cover pretty much anything, a full 2 months minimum is recommended for crypt...FYI.

Well my treatment in QT was successful.
The only experience with using this medication on a reef tank came from a local reefer I talked to; they used this medication on a fish holding system with live rock. The live rock had pest nems like mojanos and aptasia and when he doesed the Furan-2 they all let go of the rock and floated to the surface. The bristle worms and pods survived and are doing fine as well as the green algae.
