I just got through treating my 225 show tank. I treated the show tank because the problem obviously was in the entire tank. I had been trying every parasitic killer in the book, for about the last 1/2-almost a year. Every time I introduced an angel or tang they would come down with raged fins and splotchy scales. Just when I thought everything was under control, and safe for a new one, same outcome. I think I went through about 4 fish over this time period. I have a queen angel that I got maybe 6 months ago that came down with HLLE within a few weeks, became lethargic and appetite lessened substantially. It kept hanging in there but none of the parasitic cures (too long to get into) did anything. I took the advise of the manufacturer, and tried Furanse. I never thought it could bacterial, but within hours, it was like magic. It ate more during the few day treatment than in the previous 2 weeks combined. When the time for the treatment was over it started to show the old symptoms again. I figured the med was now causing a toxic reaction because of over exposer at this point. As directed I did a 50% water change and put carbon back in. The queen still remained in the same state. I subsequently started using a powerhead to stir up remaining Furanase in the gravel, but that stuff is like impossible to get rid of. After 200% of water changes and replacement of my carbon and filter cartridges maybe 4 times, there are still traces. It occurred to me today that I may be exacerbating the problem. Big Angels are very sensitive to suspended particles, any kind. I'm thinking that all of this stirring of gravel, clouding the water, and 50% water changes every few days is keeping it from clearing out its gills and getting back to normal. I'm thinking that small remaining traces of the drug may just go inert and that's it. I'm now going to let everything settle down and see what happens.
Has anybody used this med with a similar outcome?
