Further questions

Eric,

I was curious to see if you have any further research / opinions on the foam use in your tank.
I am preparing to move and would like to add this to some eggcrate structure in my tanks. But, I'm just a little nervous.
Is there anyone that's using this stuff and not running carbon on their tanks?
The fact that you feel the need to run carbon is what makes me a little nervous.
Thanks,
Tim

Sorry it took me so long to reply!

I figured that no one else would post after the month was over!

Anyway, I don't know of any other reefers out there that use this foam. If you are nervous about it though, you could just make sure to do a few full water changes before adding any livestock.

Maybe cycle the tank with SW, then drain it and refill it again with more water before stocking? This might be overkill, but it was pretty easy to do on my 7 gallon nano.:)

I am inclined to say that this stuff is completely harmless, but again, I'm not 100% sure. I've always just taken the safe route and ran carbon along with large water changes before stocking.

FWIW, I no longer run carbon on the original nano that was foamed. No ill effects that I can see.
