On the acrylic vs glass question.

I've had glass tanks since the 70's.

When I got my big tank, 400G, it was acrylic.

After 10 years, I'm looking at getting rid of it because of all the scratches and work it takes to try and clean it without scratching it. I'm replacing it with glass. Only difference from my past glass tanks, I'll use Starfire glass this time.

Nuff said.

Thanks for the input glass seems to be the winner. acrylic doesnt seem to have many fans here

I have had an acrylic tank for a number of years now and I still think it is in pretty good shape. I went acrylic since the tank is in our family room and i have a couple of teenagers and always a group of kids in the basement. It definately provides me a bit of comfort knowing it can take a little bit of abuse if something hits it.

My only pet peave is that coraline algae is a pain to get off the acrylic especially if it is in the corners. Don't let it get out of control or you will inevitibaly scratch the tank trying to remove it. Also too fish like naso tangs rub up against it and can put small faint scratches with their barb by their tail as well as their mouths. I have a few scratches but at least they can be fixed with a little elbow grease and make it look like new.

A friend of mine has a 360g acrylic build as well and he spoke about how hard it was to clean but he told me scratches are easily repaired. He has never had a glass build that big so couldnt tell me one way or the other.

I'm looking at roughly the same size tank right now and went through the glass vs. acrylic and I've decided on glass even though I'm worried about scratches to the glass and have heard you can fix acrylic scratches the process looks to be very labor intensive, it was actually someone that I've bought acrylic sumps, skimmers and other products from that pushed me toward glass. He works with acrylic regularly and if he's saying to go with glass for a tank that size I trust him.

You may want to look at Atlastankworks.com if you don't get what you are looking for with your LFS, SPotter got his tank there and I'm seriously considering them over my LFS right now.
