im going to be doing a 240 gallon lion/scorpian tank. it will be 72x24x32. my main ? is if i can keep the fish i want in the same tank.

fish list:

1 Volitan Lionfish, Colored (Pterois volitans)
1 Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish (Dendrochirus brachypterus)
1 Radiata Lionfish (Pterois radiata)
1 Mombasa Lionfish (Pterois mombasae)
1 Leaf Fish (Taenianotus triacanthus)
1 Weedy Scorpionfish (Rhinopias frondosa)
1 Sea Goblin (Inimicus japonicus )
1 Fu Manchu Lionfish (Dendrochirus biocellatus)
2 Red fin Waspfish (Paracentropogon rubripinnis)

waspfish will definitely be consumed by some of the larger tank mates, fu manchu might be iffy but should be fine, just depends on how big the larger ones are and how small the dwarfs are, if you think they might be able to fit them in their mouth, they probably can and will

the simple answer is no.

i have had a lion that picks on my cockatoo wasp(which is larger that the leaf and the red fin). if you start with the small body ones stay witht hem. same goes for the medium. some of the small and mediums look better than the large.

if i were you my lion tank would be

Duo of Fuzzy dwarfs M-F( i have owned these and they are very personable)
Fu man chu(cause i own one and they are BA)
Cockatoo Waspfish(funny fish and they get to be about as big as the others)
weedy scorp would be a nice addition
then a small eel like a ghost ribbon or a dwarf moray of the sorts.

Now of course their are many combos that i did not mention.

the size difference between all the fish u mentioned is mostly why it would not work

i was thinking they might be to small. is this better? the main fish i want is the volitan.

I would not recommended mixing dwarf with large lionfish. My Russell Lionfish is fully grown at 12' and he tried his best to somehow pass through the glass to get to the Fu Manchu who was 4' (i just think the Fu was smarter and was harassing the Russell...they now have their own tanks). The Volitan Lionfish max size is about 15-16'. Anything that is smaller than 8' will be free game for the Volitan. Don't forget their mouths can stretch to be double its normal size. Plus, their stomachs can stretch to 8x its size (a single adult lionfish can consume nearly 20 small fish in one setting...it is for this reason that they are top predators)

Either stick with dwarfs or large lionfish. If you mix someone will get eaten.

1 Russell's Lionfish (Pterois russelli)
1 Weedy Scorpionfish (Rhinopias frondosa)

would i be able to keep any other fish with these?

maybe these:
Striated Angler (Antennarius striatus)
Freckled Hawkfish (Paracirrhites forsteri)

I would stick with your top 5 choice. The three lions will stick to the top of the tank and the goblin and weedy at the bottom. The only problem you might have is feeding the two fish at the bottom of the tank. Until you become skilled at target feeding the lions might get to the food first. My best suggestion is if you have your heart set on the weedy and sea goblin put them in first. Than add your volitan in second since you really want him -.^. Once you are comfortable with feeding than think about adding another lionfish.

The only problem you will have is them trying to eat each other. Just make sure they are all about the same size. Find out what their growth rate is so they don't out grow each other ^^.

I would suggest investing in a nitrate reactor considering the bio waste they are going to create ^^.

You can always add corals since they are all reef friendly :P worry about adding other fishies once you can handle what you have ^^

I 100% agree with rabbitfishy. Definitely add the scorps first and get them eating and comfortable (few months maybe). He also made a great point about the growth rate too, volitans grow super fast so you'll need to get the scorps at a decent size to start with since they don't grow nearly as fast.

ok i will just do the 5. just hope the tank doesnt look empty with only 3 swimming fish.

There are plenty of fish that are compatible with lions; unless that's all you want. I tried keeping a herd of 5 Volitans in a 240 for a while, IMO, they never did look natural, especially as they grew. Now the tank has 3 grown Volitans that ignore each other, 3 purple tangs, and a Harlequin Tusk. I think they look very natural; a few tank pacers and a few rock-sitters. (And spoiled beggars).

RE, your original list: I think it would be impossible to get food to many of these fish---especially the bottom-sitters.
