Fish can go a few days without eating just like people can. A lot of lion fish will only eat live and need to be trained to eat frozen - at least the ones at my LFS anyway. Yours could be accepting frozen, but if he's new and you haven't seen him eat I wouldn't count on it.
As far as compatibility you'd want something large - which I'm not sure you tank can hold. Some people report keeping small fish with lion fish with no issues as long as they're well fed.. while others' lion fishes ate their tankmates.
Also if you don't have a lid get one. I didn't know they were jumpers so I had a lid but was lazy at times bout putting it on. Found him on the floor behind the tank.
