Fuzzy Dwarf Lionfish Questions

Hey guys,
Two days ago I finally picked up my 1st lionfish. Considering I have prestablished 29G biocube thats thriving with coral I decided to add this guy there. Hes a Fuzzy Dwarf Lion and is a mere 2-2 1/2". Its my 1st lionfish and have a few questions. Im starting to worry a little thats hes already been in the tank for 2days and still shows zero interest in any of live food I put in the tank for him. Even as the fish swim past his face where he is hiding he still doesnt make an attempt to eat. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or and issue. I could definitely use any suggestions that anyone has for me.
Thanks
Dan

well mine did similar. what are you trying to feed?

i used live ghost shrimp. For my black ribbon eel i put in 3 peppermint shrimp cause they could live in saltwater so if he was hungery he had something to chase and eat.

they have a slow metabolism. i have had my fuzzy go a week without eating and then all the sudden he was a monster and ate everything i gavr hime. with lions you will need to be patient. they are very shy animals IME to begin with. once they warm up to you they will be like little puppies.

Alright thats good to hear.
The LFS i go to was out of Ghost shrimp so i had to settle for some guppies. If what your saying happens to me hopefully he becomes a monster soon too and goes after the guppies until i get the ghost shrimp
thanks

Your fish is a small juvie, so one major consideration is giving it approprately-sized food that won't intimidate it. Given a choice, most lionfish prefer smaller food items to one large item, and they're more easily digested. Get some small guppies, mollies, or ghost shrimp, (no golfish or rosy reds!) feed them with a good quality marine flake food and may even some beta glucan (boosts the immune system), then give your fish about 4 of them every other day for a juvie fish. Once the fish is condiditoned and eating well, you can begin weaning it.

Frank Marini's Lionfish Info Sheet

Frank also has an excellent book dedicated to Scorpaeniformes entitled Lionfishes and Other Scorpionfishes which is a must-have IMHO (< $10 on Amazon).

Do give the resources a read...they contain lots of scientific and practical experience information.

My wife just got a Fuzzy last week and its our first . We put 3 live ghost shrimp in there right after him and he went to town and took out all 3 with in 5 mins .

Wife and I are keeping all of our fish on live food !!!

What live foods were you going to feed? Variety is the spice of life. You'll need something other that ghostshrimp, and guppies are just a weaning tool, not a meal plan.

Just curious what ya got over there.
