Fuzzy pod creatures

Here is a link to a photo of something in my tank I'm trying to ID.

They are white, fuzzy looking pods with what look like tentacles sticking out of a hole in the end. They are about 1/8th of an inch long. They are growing inside this empty clam shell and several other places throughout the tank both in the light and in darker areas such as the inside of this shell.

they are a type of sponge, i have a couple im my tank, i have seen them take over a 10 gallon at a store i used to work at...

Pineapple sponges, possibly in genus Scypha. Their populations go up and down as tank conditions change. They're filter feeders dependent on the amount of organics in the water.

at any rate they are good for the water--a natural source of filtration
