anyone?
some sites say 3-4 mins.... some say 10... i have no idea where to start... i will be QT'ing the tang for a few days to help treat him on his own...

I've done FW dips on several occasions and never longer for 10 minutes. What I did was put some fresh RO/DI water in a 5g bucket, dropped a heater and powerhead in and waited until the water was the same temp as my tank. When all was ready I put my purple tang in for approximately 10 minutes. What happens next is easy to explain. All fish have a slime coating and when you introduce a marine fish to freshwater the stress it induces makes their slime coat fall off and with it any bacteria or pathogens that may be attached to it. My purple tang had ich really bad and this FW dip method got rid of it. Anyhow, after the dip just place your fish back into your tank and wait and see. No need to re-acclimate it is necessary. Let me know if you have any other questions.

thank you so much... my powder blue was so bad this morning... i thought he was going to die... i paniced and put him in some RO that was prolly 10 degrees COLDER then the tank he was in... he layed flat on the QT tank for 3 mins then i put him back in the tank...

i now have had a chance to heat the QT tank to the proper temp and also matched the pH (was already the same) i will do the FW dip now and post results after... thx so much!

I ONLY KEPT HIM IN FOR 4-5 MINS... HE LOOKED LIKE HE WAS GOING TO DIE... LAYING ON HIS SIDE, BREATHING VERY RAPID... :( HE IS UPRIGHT IN THE FUGE RIGHT NOW, BUT I CAN STILL SEE THE ICH ALL OVER HIM... I DONT KNOW IF HE WILL MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT...

anything else i can do?

i'm not a big fan of subjecting an already sick fish to freshwater baths. just causes more stress in my opinion. i prefer hypo salinity and high temp treatment. you have a QT tank so use it for the treatment. drop the QT tank's salinity slowly until you hit around 1.015. slowly increase temp to 81.

btw, freshwater dip is not instant cure and not all will be gone in a single dip. i've had success with short (4 minutes) but 5 consecutive days of treatment.

fish is dead :(
he some how jumped from the refug to the return area and i found him attached to the QuietOne3000 that was powering my skimmer... i bet that has never happened to anyone else before....
this sux :/
