I traveled up and down NY/NJ today visiting several fish stores figuring out how to build my sump and decided to snap some pics throughout my day. I'm going to post the pics on separate threads. this is from the LFS in brooklyn, I think it is a G. Chiragra (Tiger mantis shrimp), but unlike roy's personality description, this particular one was very very interactive and not camera shy at all.

this is his/her back shell:

showing off his/her raptorial appendages:

his/her simple home, its a hob canister filter + fluorescent light:

this mantis has been at this LFS for the past 3 weeks and he/she seems to be doing all right. i saw a horseshoe crab in the same tank, the shell was white to translucent, maybe a victim of the mantis. either way, this particular mantis was awesome to watch!

he hasn't hit it yet, in that pic he was juat exploring his new tank and came over to check me out while i was waching him.
i do hear him banging away at snail shells and the rocks he uses to build the walls inside his cave
