Galaxea and Brown Jelly

Ok, so this is really an update to another thread I started, but hte subject to this one seems to better describe it.

I purchased a large colony of galaxea from ebay a few weeks ago. it is not your typical metalic green galaxea in that it has shorter polyps and is a lighter green. after a few days it starte dto show signs of brown jelly disease. I posted here and didnt get much response. I also posted in the LPS forum and didnt get 1 single reply there. I did some research and some googleing, and found this site

http://www.ericborneman.com/Brown%2...wn Jelly.html

while it was helpful, it was not exactly what I was looking for. so here is what I have done to combat the issue.

1. dipped effected ares in freshwater/iodine dip. used 5 drops lugols per cup ro/di water. Needless to say coral was NOT happy with this and didnt extend polyps for several days. the brown jelly did turn white and slowed its progress, but did not go away and actually spread.

2. Final solution was to actually frag off damaged areas back to good tissue.

coral is now in recovery and slowly extending it's polyps. hopefully within 3 days it should all be fully extended and recovered.

Update on galaxea. COlony has recovered nicely and is really starting to come out since I upped the current in tank. all signs of brown jelly are gone!

Excellent... seems like you almost had the same experience I did. Mine has been going strong since the first couple weeks. Hope it keeps recovering...

Came home today after traveling since mon, and the brown jelly is back. seems as if I didnt get it all. unfortunately, I am not sure how to get it fragged down now as it has spread to some of the thickest parts of the coral. UGH>>>

Yea, Tomorrow I am gonna have to try and "shave" off the affected area and hope that works. maybe sorta chizel down a but. I really dont want to have to split this piece up as it is softball sized.

Other news: all other corals are loving flow increace. Xenia are spreading to another rock and monti cap shows noticeable growth in just this week.
