Galaxea Coral Recovery Help

I obtained a fairly large (5 inches or so) round galaxea coral. There is only a small perhaps 1 inch portion that is still alive.

Should I eliminate the dead exoskeleton portions or leave it? Not sure if the live portion would begin to utilize the existing, but dead, skeleton.

Thoughts?

ime getting rid of the skeleton works better since the dead parts have nutrients that can grow nuisance algae.

Galaxea is very easy to frag, just use a clean flathead screwdriver and push down from the top between the coralites with a little twist. Break off the dead sections, as mentioned above.
