wow, 12"? i've read only 6"...this thing is just a tiny frag, but it's already starting to skin over so it's going to grow fast, and i definitely don't have that much room in my tank.

What do you mean by skin over?

expanding. i can see new skin and new polyps starting to grow out over the edge of the rock

Galaxea's are beautiful but very aggressive nonetheless. Mine has sweepers that can reach almost a foot in length.

I dont even think the frogspawn would make it to round two :)
Galaxea will always win.

hmm I am curious here---can you post a picture?

I had a galaxea that sat beneath a nice euphylia for a few years, never any issues. Then one day it starts throwing monster sweepers. The frogspawn paid the price. I like the galaxea but I have since moved it to a separate system where it has ample room.

yup, the sweepers are what is scaring me...its in my frag/hospital tank right now, until i figure out what i'm going to do with it. as stated above, its got growth happening so i need to glue the rock its on to another rock to let the skin grow as well. i just don't know where i'm going to put it in my tank :(

(FYI, for those that are wondering, the frag was from a reef meeting where they showed us how to frag stuff, i didn't buy the frag, but ended up with it after which is why i'm doing the research after the fact)

I know what he is talking about. I started with a small Galaxea frag and it spread onto the rock I placed it on. When I moved the original frag, I had a little Galaxea frag on the rock. The original frag is doing the same thing in it's new spot. Basicly you can get new Galaxea frags by just moving the main frag every 6 months or so...

i'm still debating putting this in my main tank. it's all by itself in my frag tank right now.

as an lps, would it do decent at the bottom of the tank (90 gal) or not close enough to the light?

Depends on your lights. Even if all you have PC's, I think it will be fine. I have already rid myself of two large Galaxia due to the length of the sweepers. I wont build my tank around my galaxia, its a waste of space. I only have one right now, about 3" big. Its a baby from the mother colony. And with that, I have to keep other corals away from it. I know one day that one will go to someone else as well.

yea, sry, i have pcs. but i have a nice big open space in the sand i could put it. now, should i put the rock that it is on INTO the sand, so the skin grows over the sand, or put it on a rock so the skin grows onto the rock?

It shouldnt grow onto the sand because it needs a hard surface to calcify over. I would just place it on the sand, possibly close to a rock so when it grows it has someplace to go. I wouldnt worry about it, it seems pretty small and ALMOST harmless at this point. Place it on the sand and keep an eye on it
