garden eel

When I was considering one I discovered that they are hard to keep and pretty much need a species only tank. They also need a 8 - 10 inch sandbed to make sure they are comfortable.

They are hard to keep. Ralphie (don't know his exact screen name) has them. I would PM him.

Hello,

I saw your post calling for some info on garden eels. I have a small colony of them in a specialized tank. If you are dedicated in creating their own species only tank I would be more then delighted to share my experiences with them and give you advice on starting your own. Among other things, they require an extremely tall tank and you will need to feed them live foods on a daily basis.

we had a garden eel in our reef tank for a long time and it did great i guess it just depends on circumstance

I know this is an old thread but there isn't a lot of info on these guys.

I'm planning out a garden eel tank right now and looking for more info on keeping them.
I currently have 47 Column tank, 18"x20"x30"Tall. I figure this tank should be good since i can get 10" of sand in it and still have 20" of water column.
I'm thinking about building the stand myself and skinning it with play wood that runs 8" higher than the stand so the deep sand bed is exposed.

Figure I'll build a thin rock wall on the back of the tank using glue and fiberglass rod, then fill with sand.

Any other advise out there you guys can give or point to?
