garf bonsai growing weird

So I have a Garf Bonsai frag but it's not growing up its growing more like a chalice...I'm happy that it's at least growing since it's hard for me to keep SPS but does anyone know why it'sgrowing any sticks??

Sometimes SPS will do a lot of down/encrusting growth before it starts sending sticks up. Once it gets a nice stable base it should start working its way up.

+1 for what lokii_37 said. GARF Bonsai is a known puddler. New frags often get a nice monti like puddle going before vertical growth begins. Just ask Grant!

I'll try and post a picture sometime today...it's definitely growing just not up lol...One of my only SPS's that's actually doing good in my tank

Agree, a puddler. Had a 1 inch frag tile fully encrusted before it shot up.

I think mine is almost 2 inchs on a rock covering the whole rock and so easy of the sides...it's good to know this is a very normal thing thanks you guys
