Gauging interest. lab grade thermometers

I thought I had put this in the thread but i do not see it

Send money via paypal to:

five.five-six@hotmail.com

Include in the note to the seller:

The number of thermometers you are buying, and if you are buying the armor

If you are picking up in person, just give me cash at time of pick up but PM me so I can add you to the spreadsheet

*** You have to have a confirmed paypal address, it is just too much trouble for me to ship to unconfirmed addresses, sorry***

I am going to close the group buy at 38 units so I have a few left in case of breakage or mistake on my part

After everything has shipped ok, I will make the remaining thermometers available

Mark,

Put me down for one with the case...and I will pick up and delivery the promised goods :)

thanks
Tony

5.56,
I work in a lab, I trust the low dollar thermometers as much as I do the high dollar units....IME, your wasting your money.

Are these thermometers certified?

I've seen 5 new cheapo floating salinity testers dipped into the same tank, they all 5 had diff readings.. Here again we have the floating hydrometers at work, the refractometer are much more acurrate...JME..

yea right, NIST Traceable certs cost $75 (but you know that if you work in a lab) I am having one certed, which if you want to wait the extra week or two, I will verify the offset on your individual thermometer which as you know is pretty much a waste because these are guaranteed 0.1 +/- degrees, however from what I can tell it is rare to find one that is more than 0.05 degrees off

as far as the hydrometer vs refactometer, working in a lab, you know that is apples and oranges, the refactometer does not measure specific gravity, conductivity or salinity, they measure refractive index then compensate for estimated magnesium and predict a salinity.

but that is a whole different thread, this thread is about a group buy for NIST Traceable lab grade thermometers of which there are only 15 left

what, are you crazy:lol: that sounds like stuff you need to go to school for;) I just know oranges make better orange juice then apples, and refracometers are more accurate then the swing arm hyrdometers..The floating hydrometers are very good but also harder to use..

Every lab I've worked in has a couple Calif State certified thermometer. Its scary to think about the people who certify em.

How accurate are the dark room thermometers? Price seems lower but perhaps these are not NIST certified?

This says accurate +- 0.25F

Or cheaper the Kodak brand +- 0.50F

one of those those would work but then again those prices are not shipped. the first one you posted has a range of 60-130 degrees f with .5 degree subdivisions, which would work, but the graduation lines are going to be very close together, harder to read, and only precise to 1/2 degree so in a pinch, it could be marginaly suitable, but no where near close to what 17F does with 0.2 degree graduations and a scale of 66-80F

the other one is 2 degree graduations, and is 5.75" long with a scale from -10 to 120F, that one would be all but usless in this aplication,

thanks for the interest. the 17F is a unique find at that price, and it's sutability to the reefer. I did however find a better model, which is the 45F but at 4-5 X the price, I decided to do a GB on the 17F

Very valid point with the graduation lines. I used a lab grade thermometer from my work some time ago and it's range was so large I had a helluva time making out the measurement...

1 plus case please. paypaled you.

got you down

I am going to reconcile the spreadsheet this evening but it looks like we are down to only 7 left

Latest update:

The thermometer industry is rather odd, the manufacture would not drop ship and when I went to them for a price quote it was $35 per unit plus shipping, I got a great deal on all remaining 39 of these from a distributor in Texas who just shipped them today. I ordered them over a week ago but they are scheduled to arrive at my house on May 7. This is a big undertaking. For those picking up locally, I will have them at Ali’s “amazing reef” for pickup for the weekend, the ones I am shipping, will be a bit more work. I will start shipping A.S.A.P and will in all likelihood have some out the 8th and 9the and the remainder on Monday the 12th

I want to say thank you to everyone who has participated in the GB and helped make it as streamlined as possible so far, I have heard some GB can be a tremendous amount of work

Also there are 4 left
