GBTA moved

My first try with GBTA. just a question. I pit mine on a rock when i first put it into the tank. it attached but over the course of the next hour it slowly moved to under the rock away for the light. the flow in that spot was low to med at best. is this normal for the gbta to move under a ledge. will he eventually move to a place more suited for him

Above all else, don't touch it. To 'herd' anemones, you can experiment with the water currents in your tank and move a nozzle gently, but always let nems do what they want: all you can modify safely is the current, and not violently, either. Just hope it doesn't find a powerhead intake.

That's all those stupid things do is walk all over the place and nuke corals. I can't stand BTAs.

well ill try. if it moves to much and does too much damage i have so much extra rock ill just take the whole rock out. i do like how they look thought. figure ill try it out for myself

I have a RBTA and when I first put him in the tank I did the same as you. He was closed for a day or so.

I moved to rock closer to another rock and he then switch rocks.

They feel more secure when their foot is in a crevasse away from predators.

Mine has been stationary since.

I just got my first GBTA today and placed it in the tank. Had the spot picked out that I wanted it in and had a little trouble getting it on the rock to start with, slippery little thing. But so far after about an hour and half it has stayed put. Will see what happens but hopefully it stays on the rock I put it on and clown's find it.

i just dont understand why my GBTA wants to be under the rock out of the light. gbta use light for enegry right ?

Give it time. Once he's in the tank don't touch him for a week.

Think about. It was shipped half ways across the planet, therefore stressed. Spent time adjusting to your LFS tank, more stress. Then put in a plastic bag and lugged off to your tank. More stress. Now it needs to adjust to your tank, water, lights, co-inhabitants.

Just give it time. If all your water parameters are in check he will eventually find his spot.

Don't feel bad. During the night fine moved under the rock as well. Made trying to feed it real hard.

Don't feed him for the first week. Let him come out. When its fully open then you can feed it. Also you just need to either blow some food towards his tentacles or just give him a small piece of shrimp in his tentacles. Never try to push anything down its mouth, it will hurt it and most probably die. Just patience.

I feed mine a small piece of shrimp 1/8" x 1/8" 2-3 times weekly.

i wasnt going to feed him every 3 days. i was maybe once a month. i know a guy who has a whole tank full of them. he said he used to feed every 3 days now its like once a month or 2 and they are still living.

If you can create a current over the BTA, and then another underneath, that could work. They don't like direct flow, least not mine. The over/under flow allows them to flower up nicely. Plus you need to provide sufficient rock crevices for the BTA to place it's "foot".
