gel super glue & sps

can gel super glue be applied underwater to glue a sps frag to a rock? If not what can I use to secure it to a rock. I want to remove it from the plug or should I just leave it on there?

Alternatives:

You can try it on some coral skeleton to get your technique down before messing with the live frag and see if you like how gluing it directly to the rock works. You might consider using both super glue gel and epoxy putty in this process.

You can snip off the bottom of the frag plug and glue it to a rock outside of the tank with a combination of epoxy putty and superglue .

No, you can't use super glue gel underwater. If the rock isn't too big or won't disrupt your entire set up take it out of the tank and glue. You can use that epoxy stuff (green with white in the middle) but you have a white glob that looks weird. Over time the coral will encrust over it or it will be covered in coralline.

I have used super glue gel on SPS frags. I take the frag out of the water and dry the end and apply a lot of glue and stick it underwater on the rock I want it. I try to stick it in a hole of the rock and cut the flow back for a little while for the glue to set up and have had good success.

:) yes, that is how I have done it. It does cure quickly once it hits the water so you have to move quickly.

I have used it under water. It skins over when you put it in the water. Then you put it where you want it and push, it breaks the skin and sticks there. It is a little tricky to do the first few times, but once you get it down it works well. You have to hold it there for a few seconds until it holds itself there.

I do have several small holes where I am thinking of placing it. The rock can't be taken out. I also have some putty. Just mix both together? I find the putty doesn't stick very well though.

Knead the putty. Put the gel glue on the part that will attach to the rock and to the point where the coral will attach. Then push the whole mess into place. The crazy glue will lstick better than the putty and ethe epoxy putty will mold to the rock surface.
