The Mini 160 VS12 which is the latest generation added the AKB (anti-lime bypass) to the pump for improved reliability. Other than that, they are basically the same.
The Anti Lime Bypass is the red tube that sends water from the volute to the back of the block. It sends cool water from the pressure side the magnet cavity to reduce calcium buildup by keeping the magnet cavity cooler. Calcium buildup in the magnet cavity is the number one cause (actually the only cause) of premature failure with these pumps. The addition of the AKB did necessitate a change of the volute but the performance difference in terms of the pump is minor between the two.
