Gen-X Return pump?

While continuing to work on my skimmer I was noticing my return pump it says its rated for 1537.5 GPH. Is this over kill for a 135 with a 55gal sump/fuge??? Maybe this is why it was t'd off to supply skimmer?

IMO it is overkill, I would really want around 700gph going to the display tank. depending on what you have for headloss and such you could use that pump to feed the skimmer, display tank, carbon and gfo reactors, ect.

The tank only came with 1 overflow box with (2) 1"pipes. Don't know if the box could keep up the pump. Would another gate valve inline return be able to slow the flow or cause the pump to burn up?

agreed... to much flow

I would look up flow charts on the pump and look at how the pump responds to head pressure. Not all pumps decrease power consumption when they have a higher head load.

Might be worth just buying a smaller, quieter & more effecient smaller pump

2-5x's a hour turnover is what you should shoot for in your sump
