Generator

Anybody have a generator? My power just went out (laptop on batteries with battery backup on my modem) and I'm not sure how long it's going to be out. Last time was 2 days and I nearly lost my tank. I don't want a repeat of jason's disaster if they don't get the power back on in a couple of hours.

Shoot, didn't see this in time. I have one at my house I have never even used. I bought it when I had my reef tank. If it looks like this is going to happen again you or anyone else is welcome to borrow it. You will have to put some oil in it though since it has never been out of the box.

Thanks for the offer. I think I'm just gonna go buy one as we have what seems to be a weak transformer in front of my house that likes to go out on a regular basis.

I guess you priced them and decided not to buy one right away. Those things are expensive, I got mine used and just had to overhaul the carb on it to get it to run. I guess I let the gas sit too long in it.

Well I'm debating getting one of the little portable jobies or get one of those honkin whole house natural gas fired ones. Wally world has them starting at $100.

I lost electricity for almost three days a few years ago. I had to run the whole tank and my refrigerator off the generator. It was a real PITA.

I bet. I went through a two day outtage about a year ago and got a temp gen to run the tanks and fridge while it was out.

That was before the 55 though so I want to put something in place to protect it.

One suggestion on the generator. If you buy one of the small portable generators that runs on gasoline look at the run time per tank of gas and at what load. The little one Lana and I have powers the essentials on both our 40 and our 10 but will only run for about an hour on a tank of gas. Talk about a PITA.

Check out harbor freight when you are looking at generators. I bought mine there for right around $500. Hard to believe that I have had it two years now and never taken it out of the box.

get the natural gas generator, plumb it to the house line and no worries over fetching gas. just dont expect to be happy when the gas bill comes....
