Hi all,
I have had my watanabei pair for well over a year. They were both female one turned male. The male never showed any aggression except chasing her on a rare occasion.
The last few days I noticed the male is really going after the female and keeping her in hiding. I was wondering where the female was because she was always out and about previously.
When the LED's start to dim he really starts to try and coax her out by turning around and fluttering his tail at her. When she does come out he starts to swim around her up and down going sideways. They try this multiple times but I have not witnessed an actual spawn.
My questions is about the increased aggression and keeping the female in hiding. In the past I have seen him do the flutter thing while she is around but now he actually keeps her in a hole in the rock.
Is the aggression just an attempt to increase his chance of spawning with her? The female does appear to have a slight bulge in the lower middle to rear section of her body. Are these an increase in eggs?
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Nick
