geo 618 calcium reactor

So I just purchased a used geo 618 calcium reactor on ebay. I use my apex to control it. Im just wondering how to lower the alk and calcium output. Should I change my PH on and off points should I increase the drip rate or slow it down. On the instructions it says the slower the higher the alk. Any help would be much appriciated.

If the drip is steady and not slowing down or clogging, the easiest way is to raise the PH in the reactor, this is the same as slowing down the output.

I'm new to the calcium reactor thing. I just picked up this calcium reactor and have an apex and plan to use them together. What exactly is the purpose of using the two together?

The apex would be used to control the CO2 solenoid. You could control the pH in the reactor this way or prevent it from going too out of whack...same could be done if you were monitoring pH in the tank.

So how exactly would I go about this? I have one ph probe in my tank. I guess I would buy a second one and then hook it up to my apex and my calcium reactor? What's the purpose exactly?

you set your second pH probe to shut off at a critical LOW point to prevent run-away..
My Geo 618 on my 125 apex solenoid program is this..

Fallback OFF
If pH2-Ca > 06.70 Then ON
If pH2-Ca < 06.50 Then OFF
If pH > 08.25 Then ON
If pH < 07.75 Then OFF

I had my drip rate @ 75ml per min and 55 BPM

I will warn you that things can go BAD quickly if your not ontop of it!
I just discontinued my reactor on my 125 and have gone to 2 part because my load is not enough to support it. I will set it up on the 375 once its kickin...

This thread was started back in July of 2012, however I thought I'd answer in case anyone else was curious.

In my opinion it would be best to raise the PH inside the reactor. If you slow the drip rate down too much you risk getting it clogged.
