i don't see why not, the 618 is rated for tanks upto 350 gallons.

You would be fine with a 612. A 618 is definitely more than what you need, and I would only recommend spending the extra few bucks if there is any chance you are going to be doing any type of upgrade in the future.

That's good news. I have no plans on a bigger tank anytime soon, but if I plan to be SPS-dominant, would you recommend the 618 then?

Even with an sps dominated system the 612 is still going to be more than plenty. Honestly, there isn't much difference between the 612 and 618 in terms of capacity, so I typically just tell people to save a few bucks and get the 612. HTH
