Geo kalk reactor ?

Those of you that use Mrs Wages pickling lime in your kalk reactor - how much do you put in the reactor on intital fill up for a GEO?

this really depends on how often you want to add lime but I would suggest no more the what will get absorbed in two weeks

more - higher risk of high potentcy kalc powder enering the system
less - lower risk ( if some enters the main at leat it will have a chance of being lower potencey or less likely to create a huge Ph spike

there is a calculator out there that will let you know the max solution that can be absorbed or ounces per gallon

I use to figure my evaporation for the week (4g a day times 7 =28 gallons) and use that number times the max saturation amount as the amount I would add weekly, and sure enough if I missed a day or so the Ph would drop indicating the kalc water solution was spent and only contained the residual sludge

I run a Apex controller to control the ato through the reactor so I am looking for max saturation and ato will shut down when and if ph gets to high in tank.

you wamt more then that as the new top off water enters the reactor you need to have surpluss kalc to resaturate the water. so only putting enough in for the initial max saturation will not be enough

the GEO can handle a couple inches of kalc powder and mix it just fine. if you just put a couple inches in you will most likely have enough for a month or more depending on the amount of evaporation you get

depending on a ph probe to shut down the reator could be too late in the event of an upset condition. not saying it wont work but I've read a lot of stories where they were dependent on the ph probe but still crashed the tank with a high kalc dose - usually from a stuck float switch

I just looked it up 2tsp per gal of water

so if you evaporate 10gal a week and want a weeks worth add 20tsp etc
