Getting a mantis out of a live rock

I've got a mantis who has retreated into a series of ridiculous tunnels in a Tonga rock, and I need to kill him. I've tried the water bottle trap, with no luck. I think he might already be dead from me pounding on the tunnels with a screwdriver, but Im not putting the rock back into the tank until Im sure. What can I do to make sure hes dead, but not hurt the live rock?

u dont need to kill him try a freshwater dip or take a tube and put freshwater in the hole
