I am getting this tank handed down to me by odd occurrences. I really want to do it right and make it into a well rounded tank. It is a 40 Gallon with a Clown Fish, Yellow Tang and a shrimp. It has every part it needs to run but I just need advice on what other Fish I should add and Plants i should put in.

Below is a link to my Tank

Please let me know. [link removed]

That link doesn't appear to be working, at least not for other people. You'll need to upload the picture to some site and post a link from there.

Flashing lights... pull over... tang police here..

First thing you do is return the yellow tang to a local fish store for credit..
A 40G tank is not suitable for a yellow tang.. Even a small juvenile one will quickly outgrow that tank..

As to what other fish/plants.. Thats all up to you..
Just research the needs of those fish/plants,etc... so that you are putting them into a suitable home and know how to properly take care of them..

You have a LOT of learning to do though..
I'd suggest starting with a good 5 hours or so of reading this..

and then continue on..
A saltwater tank is not something one should just start with little to no knowledge..
They can require considerable time/money/effort..
This ain't a goldfish bowl..

sorry.. tough love ;)

The first rule of keeping tangs, is you don't talk about keeping tangs (in a small tank).

A list of equipment would be helpful.

And saltwater tanks can get pretty expensive, both in $$$ and your time.

When I saw 40 gallons and yellow tang my eyes literally got big and I jumped back from my computer. All kidding aside, please read the stickies at the top and the link mcgyvr supplied. With no knowledge it's going to be a tough road but not impossible.

Agreed, I made the mistake with my first tank on getting a yellow tang and it never seemed happy in my tank which was a 60 gallon. I would vote for exchanging it for credit as well and get something that will do better in a smaller tank.

I am a novice and I couldn't concentrate after seeing Tang and 40G. I expected a lot of Tang Police to follow, and it didn't disappoint.
