Getting already grown Mangrove?

I'm looking to get mangrove that are already grown up a bit. I have been into bonsai for about 6 years now and have just gotten into saltwater tanks, I'm setting up a tank that is a display fuge and am looking to get mangrove that are already grown a bit not just shoots?

My Mangroves have grown very quickly. It might be cheaper if you get pods and let them grow.

I have a similar, display, fuge) My Mangroves were shoots when I started... they are 2ft tall now (see my gallery). I am at a stage now where I need to trim... or maybe sell?

This is where i bought all my mangroves. I had hundreds and most were 2-3 feet with over 100 leaves. They grow fast if you treat them right.

I have read (no experience) that your are better of with seeds because the mangrove adapts to the water it gows in (even fresh water) so if you get one from 1.023 and move it to 1.025 salinity, you will have to acclimate it right or you could kill it? the seeds are said to grow much better. and be in better health.???

In your opinion what are the best mangroves for one who has no experiance? can I get them from the site you posted?

Rhizophora mangle is the "red mangrove". It's the one most commonly used in reef aquariums. Also the easiest from what i hear. I've never tried the other species (ie black mangrove).

R. mangle is usually bought as a "pod" (a torpedo-shaped, bean-like form, with no leaves or roots) or as a sprouted pod (roots and a few leaves).

Just like you mention, many of the sprouted pods are grown in fresh or brackish water and may have a difficult time acclimating. It's not impossible and I've had the majority survive the process.

I have ordered many hundreds of pods or Rhizophora mangle from www.banana-tree.com. They generally come sprouted. If planted in a DSB and given adequate light, they should survive the acclimation process.

To find on the website, They are listed under the "seeds" section. Go to the Rs and find Rhizophora mangle. They have the cheapest prices for the quality.

ok Thanks. question on triming the roots, If they are in a deep sand bed and you up root them will this cause trouble?

Yes, mangroves hate to have their roots disturbed. Expect growth to slow and leaves to yellow and drop.

As far as trimming the roots.... I wouldn't trim any roots that are alive. Try not to mess with the roots as much as possible.
