getting anemones to let go thread

What kind of tricks does everyone use to get anemones to let go??? I paid good for the rock mine decided to attach to and im not ready to smash it up, its a very nice piece. Its split and Im trading mine to a member saturday hopefully I can have it off by then.

Try pointing a small powerhead toward it. I had one that wouldn't let go and Eastamherstbias suggested this. It worked well, the nem moved overnight.

Blow at the base with a turkey baster. When it lifts up a bit stick your finger under it and work it loose ,gently.

Tom, I have found it a lot easier to be gentle and more accurate to use an old credit card, than ones finger.

I have heard of a couple different things... one would be a ice cube in a bag and rub it on it's foot and the other would be if it's stuck to the glass a hair dryer

I haven't tried either one but I thought I would throw it out there

I rubbed the foot for ten to fifteen minutes with an ice cube in a ziplock bag while hanging it into a collection cup full of tank water, the oral disc was in water so the only thing exposed was the foot and an inch or two of it. ill hang my maxijet in there tonight and see if that persuades it.

i had a stubborn nem a while back. i tried several of the push, poke, prod methods without success. i was able to block light and flow with a piece of pvc (i've used a rock as well) the nem does not stress or risk injury. it quickly decides this place sucks .and goes on walkabout.

If it is a rbta, They will move with putting a power head on them (not to close). If they are a maxi anemone, They are unlikely to move. I have killed a maxi with the ice method. I am convinced that tapping method does not work. 20 min of tapping and no movement.

i heard you have to take it out of the water for two mins while slowly spinning it clock-wise then put it back in the water and spin counter clock wise for three mins, then you have to do a hand stand while watching it for four mins. Slowly come down from the hand stand (dont hurt your self or break anything) into the crab walk and do the crab walk back and forth in front of the said anemone and it should let go! Nothin to it, easy peezy!!!!! :-)

I need It off before we leave saturday. I'm going to get after tomorrow I have the day off so I should be able to do the crab walks and hand stands in front of it.

any of the attack methods may or may not work. were talking about a very basic lifeform. some may release when attacked, others hold tighter, or are injured. by removing or by drastically reducing flow and light, any nem will attempt to survive by moving on it's own accord. sure, you could most likely pry one off and it should survive. IMO it's better to have the nem move voluntarily. a coffee cup or a bowl should do the trick quickly ,with little to no risk or hassle.
