Getting Anemones to Move

I just aquired 2 anemones attatched to a nice piece of M. Island rock. I need to return the rock.

I tried to get them off during acclimation by using a small powerhead pointed at the foot/ base.

No dice.

I've also heard of dipping the anemone in thank water that has been chilled. Anyone know how cold? Current temp is 78F.

I've also placed the rock in a low light area in hopes the anemones will moved toward stronger lighting.

Any other proven methods out there for getting anemones to move??

PS. Also posted in CF/ Anemone forum.

Put it as far away as you can from your favorite coral, they'll move and find it. ;)

 your really hot today Steve

I did the pick at the edge of the foot with fingernail/credit card method. Worked but think I hurt my back since it took a good fifteen minutes.

Perhaps put tank water in a container and use a bag of ice (and circ pump!) to chill it until they move?

I dunno... I'm about ready to break that one rock of mine in two to get that other one off.

???

Try placing a powerhead directly at it. It will get irritated and move either to a different position, which may allow you to pry it off or may move of the rock.

with the powerhead trick, is it a gradual move or will they get the hint in a relatively short amount of time (30 min)?

I battled with removing three large anemones from a large rock with deep recesses where I could not even see their foot.
lay the rock so the anemone is on the bottom and but some flat rocks around it. It will move to get to the light and circulation. Hopefully it will attach to one of the other rocks or move to where you can get at its foot and use the pick method to get it to release.

slowly remove the rock from the tank to avoid kicking up the sand, set the rock near the garage exposed to the sun, crack open a old car battery, drip the fluid SLOWLY on the base of the anemone till it releases.

shud work in less then 30 mis.

( i know it might sound a little risky, but this is a sure shot....TRUST ME! )

I still say the colder water trick should do it. Hopefully he gets around to trying it and can report back. Battery acid? Wow. Just when you've thought you'd heard it all...

Any luck??? :)

Cheers,
clint

I will try alll this week. I was outta town since Friday.

PS. I would never crack open a battery and drip battery acid/ water on anything. Isn't that cruelty to animals??

I'm tagging along here. I may need to move my anemone soon and I have no idea how I'm going to do it. His foot is anchored 4" under the sand to the base of a rock.

those things are beasts. I'm going to try this evening. I don't want to stress them by trying to force them off.

I haven't forgot about ya.
