I have been out of tanks for a few years now. After helping out a friend a few days ago I got the bug. I realized I had a 29g laying around and not much else.

I plan on mainly zoas in the tank when its cycled.

Can anyone out there recommend some mid range lighting, HOB filter, and anything else that may have changed over the years? I had some powerheads and such but after years of sitting around they are frozen solid.

This is all I am working with right now.

Thanks in Advance.

What kind of budget are you working with? Should be able to find a decent LED fixture for a decent price for a tank that size. I'd figure out a budget first and see what's available in your range and research from there.

For the HOB "filter" I'd look into a HOB protein skimmer, something like a Reef Octopus or Aquamaxx HOB - don't cheap out there with something like a seaclone. But again, see what's in your price range and research and look at others experience with each.

Thanks Kyuss,

I Have been looking at LED. In the past I have run MH and CF . I was looking at the photon24 but admittedly I do not know every much about LED. My tank is 30" long so I assume the Photon24 would be adequate.

look at the taotronics dimmable LEDs, they are inexpensive and get great reviews.

I just picked up 2 off ebay for $120 each.

Depending on your budget would determine what Power heads. Ecotechs are the top of line. but run $300-$600.

It might be a long shot but I would try soaking the power heads in some vinegar overnight and see if they don't start back up. I've been shocked by the resurrection of certain pieces of equipment that I've found in the dark recesses of my fish closet...
