Getting back into the hobby - 600 in-wall

Hey guys, i sold my previous set up when i moved from Homestead up to Plantation 4 years ago. Im finally to the point where i can get another system going. I bought bmanzie's 600g set up and have preping the house to get everything set up. Its going to be recessed in my living room wall but i am also doing a cutout in my daughters room so she will be able to see it from in there too.

I would like to do a build thread as i go through the process time permitting.

If anyone is going to be in the area on saturday and is willing to give me a hand getting the tank loaded an unloaded in the truck, i would be extremely greatfull. Its only beind moved a few miles to my place which is Jacaranda Lakes on Sunrise and Nob Hill. I have 4 people but im assuming that is not going to be enough. Drinks on me! Let me know if anyone is able to lend a hand.

Thanks ,
Jason

Welcome back, Jason

Interesting build you describe... Are you going to set it up with dual views (front and back)? May I asked how old is your daughter?

Its actually going to be front and one side view. The system is going in a bedroom which i converted to an office, and i am cutting away the wall to the living room. The office shares a wall with my daughters room. in order to center the cut out on my living room wall its pressed up against the wall that borders my daughters room. I figured i might as well do another cut out for her to see from her room. Ill put in some kind of sliding black out screen for privacy.

My daughter is almost 4. It was a big part of my sales pitch to my wife. I took her to LFS for a few weeks so she would keep telling my wife that she wants a Dory and Nemo.:lolspin:

i'm trying to attach pictures but cant get them to upload. Ill keep trying.

Oh I see... I quite didn't understand the design when you described in your first post.

600 Gallons plus a large sump. How big is the room where the tank is going to be set up? You might need a dehumidifier.

I thought about a dehumidifier but i was not sure. I just had the AC re-done in the house and i had them put a larger duct into the room. They also put a return that goes to a collection box in the living room to help with circulation. I don't know if i want to just rely on that or add in a dehumidifier.

Attached is a CAD drawing i did of my house and that room specifically. Its not 100% accurate but its within a few inches.

What do you think?

The return is in the living room, right?

Salt does not evaporate. Why do you think the system will corrode? IMO salt crystals won't travel from the office room to the living area.

Let me know on a time for Saturday and I might be able to swing by and help

Hey Guys, i know i haven't updated in a while. It has been crazy. Ill update over a few separate posts to include more pics

On Labor Day we started breaking down the tank. Thanks to Matt i was connected with Hydra Aquatics in Ft. Lauderdale who are holding all of the fish for me and they have been awesome. They send me updates and pictures of the fish which is a huge relief. We only lost a few anthias and a flame angel in the move. We lost two of the three anthias while moving the rock from the tank. The third was a few days after the move. I think i may have overloaded one of the transport containers and by the time we got to Hydra the flame angel and a few others were starving for oxygen. The flame angel didn't make it but Stephan at Hydra revived the sparrow tail angel and he is doing great.

Here is a list that Bill and i put together....

3 YELLOW TANGS
1 BLUE HIPPO TANG
1 PURPLE TANG
1 HYBRID ACHILLES TANG
1 BLONDE NASO TANG
1 UNICORN TANG
1 FRECKLED TANG
1 CHOCOLATE TANG
1 SAILFIN TANG
1 MOORISH IDOL
1 HENIOCHUS
1 SPARROWTAIL ANGLE
1 SMALL PURPLE TRIGGERFISH (NOT SURE SPECIES)
1 LARGE ANGEL (NOT SURE SPECIES)
4 SKUNK CLOWNS
2 FOXFACE
1 MAGNIFICENT FOXFACE
2 WRASSE
FEW DAMSELS

I may be missing some or have some mislabeled. Pics to follow......

I gave all of the rocks a good acid bath and pressure washing. They are sorted by type and soaking in RO water...

I ended up removing all of the drywall around the area where the tank is located to move and add electrical. I put in mold resistant drywall and painted with a high gloss white enamel paint for easy cleanup. Instead of using the existing stand i had one welded. Im using a piece of 3/4" pressure treated ply for the top....
