well I foamed the back and sides of my tank this weekend I'm getting close want to order the rock next week going with dead live rock. want to do the PVC stands with zip ties. the tank is 72x48x25 and I just keep racking me brain on how to aquascape.
would like to do the "canyon" effect but the more and more I think about it the more im not sure what to do so any pics of tanks with approx the same dimensions of my tank would be really cool... will post pics this week to show my progress...

i dont have any pics but with that kind of room for aquascaping i would say the best thing to do would be a very open aquascape with overhangs, caves, and islands would be the best and would look like a natural reef, i can sort of get you pics later this week once i finish my aquascape and get it cemented together

i forgot who had done this but i thought it came out really nicey in his tank. simple and works

good luck and how did that foam backround come out? im doing mine next week. any tips?

another clean way to do that that i recommend alot more so you wont see the PVC is using threaded nylon rod and nylon washers and nuts to bolt the rock together, they end up looking natural (they have a tanish look to them already and get covered by coraline) and they arent nearly as noticeable as PVC for a MUCH cleaner look

i got my threaded nylon rod through US plastics

cool will take a look at us plastics guess i will just start doing it
and go from there if you can posts some pics mattyice would like to see what you come up with... thanks

I used a method similar to the PVC, except that I used 1/2" fiberglass rod. I didn't see any need to make the stands that are shown above.

mrpet, i just finished the aquascaping of my rock, i am taking pics as we speak and i will have pics up in a few minutes

the large shelf is held in place by a nylon rod and two nuts threaded onto it, i still have to epoxy the rocks in place before i start up the tank, its either that or cement

don't have pictures, but I love the open look. I think to often we cram our tanks with to much rock and loose the space in there for flow and fish to swim.

that is exactly why i went with 7 large pieces of rock, this leaves me alot of open space for fish, as well as caves and overhangs for them to hide in and under

The nylon nuts and rods look good. Looking to go with something like this or acrylic rods when I start aquascaping mine.
