I got a used tank and the glass lids are all gunked up with a white film.I have soaked them in vinegar already and they did come clean a little but not enough.I do not want to buy new lids for the tank, you know how money is.Is these anything else i can do or use to get them clean.Oh and i have scraped them with a razor blade after the vinegar also.

yes i am absolutely sure they are glass lids.

Are you sure the lids are glass? or might they be acrylic?

Hmmmm.....I don't really have other suggestions. I would've done exactly what you did. Since it did come clean some with the vinegar you might try soaking for a longer period of time and see if more will come off after that.

+1 on wire bristle brush...labor intensive but it works.

Also if you go to the paint section of home depot you will se a multitude of scrapers that are way better than any scrape you will find in a fish store.......I have one that is 4 inches wide and borderline razor sharp........nice handle and grip it can do some serious scraping...only thing is completly dry them or they will corrode....that scraper I just describe works better than anything ive tried on that white crud....

If vinegar didn't work my guess is the glass is actually etched from the salt/salt creep and no amount of "cleaning" will get it looking good.
