Getting Involved

Come to the area and go spearfishing for lionfish. Unfortunately individual hunting methods are the only means of control at our disposal. With the habitat being reef structure, efficient commercial means such as trawling are out of the picture. They aren't prone to taking hooks, so handlining and longlining won't work. They are found in quantity to depths of at least 400', leaving a substantial population well below the recreational diving limits that we can count on for a concerted spearfishing effort. Sadly, like many other invasives, they are here to stay.

Only thing really to do is convince yourself and many other people to stop releasing animals that are not native to the new habitat. :(
