Just kidding , he is going into my 300 fowlr hope he works out with my powder blue, my pb is really mellow does not mess with any of my other fish and if it does not work out he is going to a 500 gallon reef tank with no other tangs. PB is about 4 1/2 inches and achilles will be around 4 or so , not going to qt because only have a 55 for qt, was told my wholesaler fish is eating well . Keeping my fingers crossed.Has anyone else tried this?

I would QT it....If nothing else to let it calm down and start eating before going in the main tank.

Here's the primer for them: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1492655

Tons of info, and going by the most recent posts I'd definitely use the 55g to QT it. Is there a reason you don't just put it in the 500g? Achilles don't seem to handle stress (the pb) well at all.
500 is a friends tank so he would be getting a free achilles and I have read the primer and alot of peoples opinion is that they stress much easier in a small tank that is why bypassing the qt process.

I have not seen much info on mixing the pb and achilles and what I have read has been 50/50, i have 600 lbs of live rock plenty of getaway spots,I am going to sue a acylic acclimation tank(in tank) intially to see how the pb reacts then go from there.

If the pb attacks him through the acrylic acclimation tank than I probably will, just trying to do whats best for the fish, a 55 is just so small especially for a hyper achilles

Not true. I know a well respected hobiest that QT's achilles in a 10 gallon tank. Its all about the water quality and flow...

That is a terrible idea. Achilles need more room than that even in quarantine. It creates more stress than benefit to the fish. Your fellow hobbyist has most likely just been lucky so far. I would never put a 4+" Achilles in a 10 Gallon.

Well I trust this person more then most....and I know he has done it. Along with several thousand dollar fish. So I feel you are fine.

Interesting. I think in this case the 55 gallon will be a fine quarantine for the Achilles. I just have a hard time treating a fish prophylactically in such a small tank when they are known to be by far one of the fish hat suffers most health wise from confined space for any length of time.

Like I said if the water quality is kept up with 100% water changes and there is flow in the tank it will work.

I have lots of flow and about 50 lbs live rock tank is very well established so will give qt a shot in the 55

People always say fish like this get too stressed to even live in small quarters, BUT... how do pet shops do it? Most pet shops keep fish in small tanks, for long periods of time, especially if it is a high dollar fish because most people looking for high dollar fish have a good source to get them and don't always use the LFS, plus the average person going to the LFS doesn't want to pay much for fish. Speaking from experience, sooo... if you have a 55 QT that is plenty big, but yes it can go downhill if you don't maintain the QT just as well you would any of your displays, or if it is not as stable as a display tank would be.

Getting this fish from a wholesaler not lfs and I know for a fact he is not in a very big holding tank, going to qt in the 55 and go from there.

smart move on the 55 QT. Get him eating for a couple weeks, then decide what you want to do next.

Get rid of the PB and then you won't have to worry about stressing the Achilles. Give that one to your buddy or swap it into th QT when you put the Achilles into the DT. Then introduce the PB later with some new rockwork.

I don't think he is the first one to have an achilles and a PB in a 300. Don't stress about it. There really isn't anything you can do besides just try it out. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

New achilles is in the 55qt swimming around he is grazing on the rocks and seems at home not skiddish or hyper like some of my past tangs he likes to flare up at his reflection, 5 more weeks and he is going into the display, will not medicate unless necessary.
