Hey all! I'm getting my first puffer today, a blue spotted puffer. Should arrive today!

I've got my QT all set up, params are all in the green for Toke (yes, my wife has already named our puffer Toke... )

I guess, anybody have advice for me? Y'all have done this alot, and have given good advice to me in the past. So. Any advice on what to look for/avoid/do to help Toke thrive?

Thanks!

Very nice puffer. Feed variety of foods that will help it keep it's teeth worn down like shrimp with the shell on, clams on the 1/2 shell, live rock for it to pick at and not to much krill a.k.a puffer crack :) now we'll wait for pics

I'll post a pic tomorrow. Got him acclimated, I know he's alive because he fought like hell when I tried to get him out of his shipping bag, but now he's in QT in a dark room, laying on the floor of my tank in the corner between 2 black painted walls. I'm going to try and give him a clam or shrimp (raw, right?) tomorrow and see if he's interested in eating, and then I'll risk a little light and try and grab a picture of the little guy! He is awesome looking, though!

i once had a tank that was infested with snails, easily over 200 in it. got one of them here puffers and they were gone in a flash!

I accept that this puffer is going to eat all my snails. I've got about 30 left in there. Bye-bye snails. It's fine, though, this puffer is such an awesome looking fish I'm willing to sacrifice a bit o' the old CuC for him.

Puffers are sweet. Can't wait to see pics of yours. Mine ignores snails and hermits though, you may get lucky.

I used Liveaquaria.

Happy so far; he's getting comfortable, been about 16 hours alone in QT. He's exploring, mainly on the floor of the tank now but I've seen him swimming a bit off the floor from a distance. If I get close to the tank, though, he'll look at me and quickly go hide in a corner or behind some pvc. I'm at work all day today, but I'm gonna pick up a raw shell-on shrimpy for him on my way home and try and bribe him out with food this evening.

Any recs for common puffer diseases that I should treat for, prophylactically? (Is that a word?) I can find things for angels, clowns, and tangs, for example, but haven't seen any common puffer diseases I should treat for.

Wanted to post a pic this AM, but still am leery of trying to turn the lights on too high or flash photography or anything, he's still completely stationary and hiding when anybody comes near the tank.

He's always in a different place, though, so I know he's exploring.

Offered him some clam last night; he hung out next to it for about 45 minutes, but it didn't look like he ate anything. It's only been 36 hours since he's been in his new home, so I'll give him a bit more time! Offering food again this afternoon, hopefully the guy eats!

Gave him some frozen brine shrimp just now; that got him moving! He took a tentative bite at one, then gobbled it, and then he was all over the tank chowing down. Looks good and healthy!

Pics incoming tonight.
