Getting my first zoas

Hi! I currently have a 30 gal FOWLR tank and am looking to get some zoa frags from Craigslist. When picking out a frag what should I look for, colorful ones that are open right? Any warning signs that should make me steer clear?

If I buy some frags how do I QT them? I don't have anything else besides the DT and some 5 gal buckets.

I found this thread that talks about dipping zoas, do you always dip? Maybe not this exact procedure but something similar?

Thanks.

Blue tang in a 30g?

How big is he now?

I do not dip or QT, I simply look for parasites and bad algae (like red turf) that I do not want to introduce.

He's probably 2" long, was maybe 1.25" when I first got him. Yes I know tangs get large and need a big tank, I'll eventually trade him when he gets larger. But for now he's happy w/my clowns, the larger is also about 2" and the smaller about 1.5".

But back to zoas, I think I'd rather be safe than sorry and at least dip. Anybody dip with something similar or same as the other thread I previously mentioned?

dipping MIGHT get rid of the parasites, but it may also kill the zoos.

Keep an eye out for the algae too, it can be a drag to get something invasive in your tank.

Get what you like. Temperature acclimate. Dip or not (dipping is mostly to prevent harming other corals in your tank). Give them plenty of light and leave them alone. Propagate them on a plug and then attach a few to a rock. Sell or trade the plug for more. The collecting process is fun. Zoas are very easy, and addicting!

I like Mr. Microscopes view on things, so straightforward and simple. I imagined you saying it in Yoda's voice and it sounds so wise!
