Getting out of the hobby...

After having a bad thermometer advise me to cook my coral, resulting in some very expensive high end losses, and the joys of being back in school I have decided to get out of the hobby for now, plus I want 45 days on the snow this up coming season, 31 days was enough last year but wont cut it this year. I finally have everything back in under control and will be selling my 400w MH 40g surge frag tub, 20g long custom display and nearly all of the amazing and rare corals I have collected on road trips and trades across the country. I will be listing them soon. Would prefer to sell locally though I have no fear shipping as I have done it nearly a hundred times. Will post stuff up soon, many of you know what I already have. Oh yeah I also have 2 new 40g Breeders and 3 20g longs available that will no longer be needed for a planned project.

Hey Chup,
sorry to here about the heater/therm. did you loose the chalices?

I am interested in those as well as some of the equipment, size of the breaders 400W MH. I will be looking for your post.

if you can send me a list to my e-mail I can read it later today, I can't get on RC or other chat rooms at work. (the man is always watching) workn4frags@gmail.com is my e-mail

thanks

End of an Era

Say it ain't so, Chupa! What about your fans? You will be missed.

That being said, I look forward to your post. At one point you had a bubble coral that would look great in my tank. And of course, the zoos.

Wishing you a fresh, deep powder.
Ben

The breeders are 36"x18"x16"H, awesome dimensions for a reef tank/frag tank, ample room with lots of depth of field, and shallow enough to be easily lit and densely stocked. One of the best tanks out there for a reef IMO. (Email sent w/ dimensions also workn...)

I will take some pictures shortly and price everything out, hopefully by the weekend. I may keep my clowns, and a couple of corals, but then I would have to set up a tank in the mountains and it would be a pain. But then again they are my babies.

Thanks for the kind words Ben, I just started picking up sponsors for snowboarding this season, and I too am wishing for fresh deep powder, and cliffs... I think you are actually speaking of some frogspawn that I have, as I do not have a bubble coral. It is a nearly transparent metallic green, one of the best looking ones I have ever found, I traded some nice stuff w/ someone out of new york for it. I am pretty sure that is what you are talking about, as you wanted it before, but it had just battled my hydronophorea (lost for sure) and I wouldn't sell it to you at the time in its distressed state. It has recovered very nicely though, and I will save it for you.

Yep, the frogspawn I believe is what I am talking about. Tommy and I both admired it in the front of your show tank, just left of center, at the last swap.

I look forward to your list, Chupa. Keep me in mind for whatever LPS or shrooms you will be getting rid of.

Also, knowing that the snow season won't last forever, if you think you're going to set up tanks come spring, you're welcome to stash a favorite or two in my frag tank, humble though it may be.

LOL, I am actually considering building an in-wall tank upstairs to house my clowns and a few of my rarest zoos and limit it to super easy corals. I am thinking I could just set up a tank at my cabin for a month or so over winter break when I am really getting after it, but it would be a pain. I am defiantly getting rid of almost everything though. If I do keep anything it will be exclusively for me, no more coral farming, no more being a coral whore. I am also planning on selling just about everything I own that is not a skateboard, surfboard, snowboard, or clothes. Well and I will have to keep my tools. I am just going to sell random usps flatrate shipping boxes on ebay filled with misc non reef related stuff... I am also selling my keggerator and volcano, since I got out of those hobbies awhile ago. I am really feeling the need to simplify my life, no more extra crap.

sorry about the delay getting the stuff up, I have been super busy w/ school lately, I am just going to sell everything I have for now, and will get back in the hobby after the snowboarding season is over and I have graduated.

Keggerator $350, dual gauge co2 regulator, chrome tap, co2 bottle (nearly full), temperature control module (lets you dial in the perfect temperature within 1 degree F), Lock on lid to keep your beer, yours, and kids out, and a keg shell. I built this while working at the brew your own brew store. It is made with the best tap, best regulator, and the temperature control module allows you to dial in the perfect temperature for the particular beer you are drinking. There is plenty of room inside to store 50+ frosty pint glasses. For an extra $50 I will throw in a 5 gallon keg that you can fill with whatever. For parties we would always make mixed drinks in it for the girls and nancy boys that don't drink beer. It is also great for making soda especially homemade root beer, and you can just force carbonate them over night. You can also make carbonated water in it. Beer will last for 6+ months in the unit so you can tke your time drinking it. Beer is much cheaper out of a keg and when kept cold and under co2 it has an amazing shelf life, unit will easily pay for itself in a little while with the money you save on beer.

As far as coral, I haven't sold any yet, I have been too busy with school to get pictures taken and uploaded. I will hopefully get them up soon.

2x 40 gallon breeder, one of the best off the shelf tanks for a reef tank. Brand new, never filled, retails for $99 price tags still on them $65 ea.

3x 20 gallon Long, a great shallow reef nano tank, I love mine, retails for $40, these are also brand new with tags, $30 ea.

I will also be putting up the 40gallon wave surge frag tub, with 400w mh w/ new 10k & 20k bulb, also a 3500K(?) bulb in case you ever want to grow some plants. This thing made me a lot of money, I just can't maintain it when I am off on snowboarding expeditions. Helped a poor college kid obtain some ridiculous reef setup.

My 20gallon long trimless display tank w/ custom plumbing will also be sold, you can find picture of it somewhere in the tucson club thread, and here on nano-reef: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=123235&st=0&start=0 w/ 250 w/ new MH 10K and 20K bulbs.

I also have a bunch of other stuff like bulk heads, powerheads, MH, remora pro skimmer, kent nautilis skimmer se, refractometer, blah blah.

I have a korilina 3 PH though it will probably be sold w/ the display tank since it has special plumbing I designed that allows for the power wire to run through the plumbing and out the back as to not disrupt the clean lines of a trim-less tank.

I have a bunch of smaller powerheads that a perfect for adding a bunch of turbulane to a reef setup, esecially good for the SPS.

I will be selling the refractometer after I get rid of the coral, as it is needed to keep my levels correct.

I don't really have any reflectors, but I have been custom making some really nice ones for some of my reefing buddies arund the country. I also just did a really clean 70w MH upgrade on my buddies 30g oceanic biocube in the stock hood, turned out really clean. Let me know what you need and I can help you build a really nice reflector or could just build it for you.

70w MH in Eclipse

Hey Chupa,

Is your friend with the modded Eclipse running a chiller? If not, how is he dealing with the heat?

P.S. I might be interested in one of your power heads. I'd love something I could discretely add, preferably with a magnet mount, to the main chamber of my AP24.

Sorry to here you are leaving Michael. Have you thought of keeping some sort of tank so you don't go through withdrawls? :)

Do you have and electronic MH 250 watt HQI ballasts or whole setups?
