Getting ready for Indonesia - new equipment.

I will be going to Indonesia for 4-weeks next month to do some research on one of the reefs there. I just got part of my new equipment in the mail yesterday.

I got a Suunto Cobra3, Mares Pegasus mrsplus BCD, and a Neptune II Nira Full-face mask.

Anyone else dive with a full-face mask? I got it so I will be able to breathe through my nose a bit since I will be diving a lot. Also got it for the comms equipment. Hope someone else has a GSM comm device while I am there. It would be interesting to try it out.

My new regulator and 1st stage should be in this afternoon.

I am fairly ready to get all this together!

Are you trained on a full face mask?

Working on that one. Difficult to find a place nearby that does FFM certification. Funny you should ask, I think I finally found one about an hour ago, just waiting to hear back from one of the instructors.

Right now my gear is at my local shop getting serviced. Also installing a quick disconnect on my Titan LX so it and the FFM will be interchangeable.

A small note about the Suunto Cobra- Suuntos are notorious for being conservative.

I do like how easy and intuitive it is, you can use it without reading the instructions (but read them anyway).

have fun and post lots of pics.

Yeah, I know it is rather conservative. That is one of the things I like about it for this particular trip.

I will be on a remote island with very limited services that is very sparsely populated. I prefer to dive with conservative tables in such an environment. I think the population is so small, the people at the research station may outnumber the locals.

Wow....sounds like a super trip. The coral triangle is the place to dive! I hope you get a chance to dive RAJA AMPAT (Eastern Indonesia/West Papua)....which IS THE EPICENTER for marine biodiversity on the planet.

I just got back from there...third trip...diving was awesome...my 2nd fave spot worldwide after the barrier reef.

Love my full face mask...takes a lil bit getting used to when equalizing but its a non issue if you descend really slowly...
