Ok here's my story. Had a 55 FOWLR for years and broke it down about when I got too busy to care for it properly.
Always missed it and now I'm about to pick up a new 120 that will be a reef tank. It's an AGA with two overflows in the middle of the tank. I already have a 55 that i'll use as a sump and a 33 long that will be my refugium. Gonna plumb everything to the basement to keep the family room quiet.
I don't think the overflows will provide enough flow and I don't want powerheads everywhere so I plan on adding a closed loop to the system. I have a friend in the glass business who will drill the back of the tank for me but I'm not sure how many holes to drill or where to drill them.
My current idea is to drill a 1.5 inch drain and then two 1.0 inch holes for the returns. I thought that drilling these near the edges of the tank would help increase the flow there but how high should they be? Better near the top of the tank or near the bottom?
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks
