Hey guys well i was at the lfs yesterday to get some filter socks and was walking down the fish tanks and noticed something splashing. I looked down and it was a 6 inch cortez stingray in a 20 gallon long. I bought him be cause he looked misserable and that he was breathing reallly fast. So i took him home and put him in my dt wich is a 90 with a 90 gallon sump. I was told at the lfs that he was eating freeze dried krill. But is morning when i when to feed him he wouldnt accept the krill ofpr frozen shrimp. Is this normal. Thanks for your help.

I am speaking outta personal experience with (stingrays) here but they dont like dryfood or freeze dried ime. I always start them off with ghost shrimp and live then slowly make them want frozen krill. I havent had a stingray yet that has accepted freeze dried food.

Same experience here never seen a ray like freeze dried right away. They like ghost shrimp and frozen krill and silversides. Once it feeds aggressively it could start eating freeze dried. Def grab a halfdozen ghost shrimp from somewhere and try those then try a frozen krill. Good luck

Have you tried feeding ghost shrimp yet today? Let us know if he eats. Fingers crossed he does. Just so you don't have to worry any more.

Yet another poor decision impulse buy, these seem to be coming a lot from you lately.

I'd stop buying fish/inverts ANYTHING until you get your big tank set up and running.

You'll continue to have problems with ALL your livestock while you are cramming them all into a small tank waiting for the big one.

With that said... the ray is most likely stressed and unhappy. That alone can cause it to go off feed. With the bioload that it seems like you probably have, the water chemistry is probably quite poor and rays are one of the more finicky critters we keep in our aquariums, imo. Poor water = poor feeding response.

is there even a big tank coming? I have read some many threads by the op saying he was getting a bigger tank and they were all different sizes.

No matter how bad you feel for fish you can't buy them. One of the most common mistakes a hobbyist makes is impulse buying, which can result in all of the following: the fish dieing, tank mates getting eaten, overcrowding, disease, and much more. It will not be a good experience for you and your fish.
Kinda like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4HE3t7Ixhs&feature=related

what the op doesn't mention in this thread is that he also has three tangs in the 90...a purple, a yellow and a sailfin. Not sure whats worse....3 tangs in a 90 or 3 tangs of the same genus in a 90!

Dragon....you need to make better decisions here!!!

also a sohal, achilles, moorish idol, and a shark. we gonna need a biiiiiig tank in 2 weeks . also there was ich i believe so it might be affecting the fish also

cortez rays are very hardy and generally eat just about anything, the fact that he isn't eating is a very bad sign. Try fresh shrimp, scallops, squid, etc...

isnt this kid in high school? his parents must give him some crazy allowance to be able to afford the things he says he is buying.

The lies are unreal. Im surprised people still post in his threads.

Sorry, I should be constructive.

Return your "stingray" so it has a chance to live.

If and when your giant tank finally does show up, set it up, cycle it for a few months and then buy livestock.

And to save a future nonsense thread, the Great White shark you purchase you can feed seal pups to in order to get him to eat.

:lolspin::lolspin::lolspin: Now thats funny and I needed that today!!!! I usually ignore his posts but when I noticed he had two very recent threads going...this one and then one about his yellow tang getting torn up...I couldnt hold back.

stingray in 90 is so mean ! I used to breed them, and stopped cause of ppl putting my babies in little tanks and killing them !

with that said .... any trace of no3, and stingray will not touch food.

stingrays are like pigs, they eat, they eat alot, and they eat everything. so a stingray refusing to eat = on its way out.
you can do a couple of 35% water changes, and feed him a piece of atlantic shrimp [frozen thawed] daily. make sure he eats it all. if he doesnt, or if he is not happy about being fed, he is not healthy and you need to do more water changes. I hope at least that u have really fine sand for him to burry in ...

please remove him from the 90G ... I can tell you exactly how it would end even if you do 35% water cange daily and get him feeding ... he will simply go crazy, swim in patterns, and die.
