Getting Sump Into Stand

So I'm trying to fit a 29g tank into my stand to use as a sump. I have a 75g marineland majesty tank and stand. I haven't installed baffles or anything, was just a tank I had and was trying to see if it would fit before I did. It is about 2" short of being able to fit coming in through the top because of the center brace of the stand itself. My question is, can I remove the center brace to get the sump in and then replace it? Or would that compromise the stand structurally? I don't really want to go down to a 20g unless you guys think that's big enough for a sump... would still prefer to use the 29g. Any advice and help is greatly appreciated. Just getting into the hobby and kind of new so any help is appreciated!

Here are some pics to better illustrate my dilemma here lol

Actually since it is not set up, I would remove and then replace the center brace.

It won’t fit into there from the top.sorry cant see the pictures, but that is how I got mine when I had a 75gallon

No it won’t fit in through the top. The sump is slightly too tall so when I try to lower it in, it hits the center brace of stand as well as the side brace. It is literally about 1”-2” short of making it... do you guys think a 20L will be fine for a sump? Or should I start cutting my brand new stand to try and get this 29g in..?

I’ll try to get those pics up once I get to work today and have some free time.

Here are the pics, and you can't see it in the pic but there is a support in line with the brace down the back, so that won't be an easy option either. It's a lot closer going through the top than through the back.

I'd just remove and replace the center brace. However, I'd consider putting some baffles in before you get it in there since you won't be able to remove it once the tanks on the stand with water in it.

Yeah looks like removing and replacing the pack brace is the only option. Almost seems odd to have a back brace like that. Alot of tanks stands are open in the back. So you can put a sump in through the back.

I have the exact same tank and stand. Remove the top brace. Put your sump in. Then replace the brace. Simple. Should have no problem doing it that way

How do you guys recommend removing the brace because it is stapled and glued in with wood glue? Atleast the way to do the least amount of damage?

The other option I was thinking was to cut about a 2" x 12" slit in the bottom of the stand to allow that corner that is hitting the bottom to go through enough to get the sump in. Then could either replace it of leave it open as a means to remove it later... how do you guys feel about that lol

Personally I wouldn't notch it. I would not want to compromise the strength of the wood. I would remove the center brace. You can pull the staples out with needle nose pliers and a screwdriver and if it is glued well, cut the seam where it is glued. Be careful and you will be fine.

Try notching the upper center brace only where the aquarium frame touches it... there may be enough brace left to maintain stand integrity...

Why cant you go in from the back of the stand and just angle it in when u get to the point where you cant go farther reach in from the top an lift that side giving u the room to turn it inside? Or am i missing something?

Its chip board. no way to remove the glue joint without ruining it. But seeing as it's just a brace and it will be under the tank, just remove it with a hammer, cut a new piece of 1x4 and replace with new when the sump is in place.

Not sure why everyone is making this way more difficult then it has to be. As long as the brace is glued/screwed to both sides of the stand it will be fine. it's not structural support, only lateral support so the stand doesn't bow out from the weight.
