Gfo and Gac

I'm running GFO in a reactor at low volume.
I also run GAC in a sock in my sump.
Would it be OK to run them both together in the reactor?
I've always thought that GAC needs higher throughput but
the increased effectiveness of the reactor could offset this maybe?

I would not unless you want to change them out at the same time. They usually require different length of time before being changed out.

I wouldn't want to tumble GAC as some types are known to break up into dust when tumbling like that. I don't prefer to tumble GFO for that reason either, but there are other reasons to want to do so (such as the packing of the small particles when not tumbling and if it is not pellet GFO).

I use both mixed together in a canister filter.

I agree to run separate unless change at the same time. I use high grade pellet in my reactor with bottom feed as i like water pushed through in lieu of down flow? As you see many ways to do the same thing

I would reverse the flow on the reactor to make it more like a canister. That's what I did. Running the media mixed is fine if you don't need the best efficiency.

I run mixed in a BRS reactor and smaller amounts of media which I then change more frequently. I have recently used two sponge filters at the top to catch fines more effectively. I tumble as little as possible such that the media doesn't clump. THis perhaps not optimum, but it works ok for me.
